Bromsgrove Villa Lions roar Bilston Town FC onto emphatic victory

On Saturday 14 January 2017, we continued our support of grass-roots football - this time visiting Bilston Town FC prior to our away match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Bilston Town FC kindly opened early to accommodate us, including arranging for the bar and restaurant to be ready for us when we arrived.

We were asked to support the home team, especially for the kick-off. To the surprise of the home and away teams they were welcomed by the very loud Claret and Blue following singing a modified version of "Holte Enders in the Sky" from the main stand.

On the blow of the referee's whistle before the match there was a minute's silence for former Villa manager, legend and gentleman Graham Taylor. Thank you to both teams and the officials for this lovely respectful gesture.

Encouraged by their adopted support, The Steelmen took an early lead and never looked back. The home team led 2-0 at half-time and added a third just before we left to see what turned out to be yet another miserable Villa away performance.

Throughout the match a few more colourful chants rained down from the terraces, some not suitable to publish on here!

The home side were rarely threatened at the back and thumped Wellington 5-0, which has since been described as their best and most complete performance of the season.

The official match attendance was 164, with 80 Bromsgrove Villa Lions included.

Barring the biggest miracles of all time, Aston Villa will be playing Championship football again next season and we look forward to again stopping by and supporting The Steelmen.

Thank you for your hospitality and all the very best for the remainder of the season Bilston Town.

Steelmen in the Sky. Up the Villa.
