COVID-19 and potential match postponements (19/12/21)

Background

Following Aston Villa's postponed match yesterday against Burnley due to positive COVID-19 cases in the playing squad, combined with the strong likelihood further restrictions will be implemented by the Government, the below statement should answer queries that are being raised by members and questions that are likely to brought up in the coming days.

High-level meetings

The Premier League and Government are due to hold meetings early this week to discuss a "football circuit-breaker" and further restrictions respectively. It is highly likely further restrictions will be implemented after Christmas by the Government.

COVID-19 cases within the Aston Villa or opponents' playing squads will also impact on whether matches can go ahead.

What is likely to happen?

The likelihood is that there will be a blanket 2-week circuit-break to curb the spread of COVID-19, particularly the Omicron variant. The circuit-break is expected to include restrictions around groups meeting, therefore large gatherings at football matches would not be permitted.

From a footballing perspective, the 2-week break would help squads to recover, implement additional COVID-19 protocols at football clubs and allow for unvaccinated footballers to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations. It is unlikely matches would be played during this period, including behind closed-doors.

Aston Villa v Chelsea (26/12/21)

We are currently planning for this match to go ahead as normal.

Should this match be postponed, the following would apply.

Match tickets

Match tickets would be valid for the re-arranged fixture. There is no need to contact Aston Villa FC or us for new tickets.

When the new date is published, if you are unable to make the re-arranged fixture, please contact Aston Villa FC or us to arrange a refund (depending who you purchased your tickets through). Note: AVFC booking fees are not refunded.

Boxing Day Special Coach

In the event of this fixture being moved, we will not be re-arranging travel for this fixture.

For supporters who have already paid for travel, they will be either:

Away matches against Leeds United and Brentford

These away fixtures are likely to be affected by enhanced Government restrictions and we should know more over the forthcoming days. We have to plan ahead as normal with our arrangements until we know otherwise.

Should these matches be postponed and moved, match tickets and coach travel will be valid for the new date. Whenever the new dates are for these fixtures, the Bromsgrove Villa Lions will be running coach travel to these grounds - with pre-booked venues en-route as normal.

Updates will be published in due course.

Can I cancel my coach booking(s) now?

As it stands, if you have booked coach travel with us your booking(s) must be honoured and bookings are non-refundable.

Am I able to cancel my Bromsgrove Villa Lions membership?

Membership is non-refundable and is currently only £7 for a basic lifetime package. Every new member is assigned a unique BVL Membership ID when signing-up. Potential fixture changes due to COVID-19 is out of our control.
